Ghost Stories
Many people that have gone inside the
house have remembered the day well. Several of the people who go inside say
they have seen ghosts of the people that have died in the house. Many of the
families that owned the house have reported that they have seen and heard strange
things while living there. In January 1968 the Romano Family moved into the
Franklin Castle, their family consist of James Romano, his wife and their six
children. Strange incidences started to occur the very day they moved into the
house. The children went upstairs to play and came back down and asked their
mother for a cookie for a friend, who was a young girl, the children said she
was crying, but the mother went upstairs and didn’t see a little girl. This
strange occurrence happened serval times, which caused many people to believe that
the children the Romano adolescents saw were the ghost of the late Tiedemann
children who died in the early 1880’s. James Romano’s wife also reported that
she would hear footsteps going up on the down the steps, though no one was
there. She also said that she heard organ music and there wasn’t even an organ
inside the house. The family was freaked out by all of the strange happenings,
so they asked a Catholic priest visit the house to give his opinion about the
unusual happenings. The priest simply stated that, “he sensed an evil presence
in the house.” The priest must have felt a palpable
evil and unholy presence in the house, when he visited the Franklin Castle. After
that the family decided to ask the Northeast Ohio Psychical Research Society (a
ghost hunting group) to come to the house and give their opinion about whether
or not the house is haunted. While the group was looking at the house one of
the members fled the house with terror. They had come to the decision to sell
the house, it was sold September 1974 (Lane). The Romano Family did not even
live in the house for ten years before they sold the house. When one of the
team members left the Franklin Castle it must have made the Romano Family
believe that the castle was actually haunted, this caused the family to want to
move out of the house. This is one of the countless ghost stories about the
house.
Along with the unexplained occurrences that happened to the Romano Family, there were more stories that the Franklin Castle is haunted by ghost. The house was sold to a man named Sam Muscatell, while living in the house Sam heard strange noises, and some of his objects vanished, he also stated that he saw the woman in black (the woman in black is a ghost of a woman that was killed in the house, supposedly when the Tiedemann family lived in the house). Sam decided to let two reporters to go inside the house and both of the reports witnessed strange and mysterious sightings. Sam’s interest in the house continued, so he started to look around in the hidden passage ways and look for hidden panels that were installed by the Tiedemann’s. Sam made a grotesque and startling discovery of a skeleton behind a panel in the tower room. After Sam made this mysterious discovery he became inexplicably sick, he lost over thirty pound while he was ill (Lane). There were many strange noises, sightings, and unexplainable occurrences that happened in the house. There are many more of these stories and some stories point to the conclusion that the house is indeed haunted.
